The yeast power it. As they produce the CO2, it changes the pressure of the gasses within the bottle and as the CO2 is released, the additional pressure forces some of the gas out the tube.

To give you an idea of how much gas this releases, have you ever seen bread being made from scratch? You mix the dough and the yeast acts on the sugars in it and cause the dough to "rise" from the CO2 released. Same thing.
