A candlepin bowling pin is the tallest of all at 15-3/4 inches, but only 2-15/16 inches wide and 2 lb, 8 oz in weight. They are almost cylindrical in shape. They are flat on both top and bottom. They do not have a "head" or a "neck" like other pins. In fact, candlepin bowling pins, unlike other types of bowling pins, are reversible. They can be placed on the playing field with either end up. Can/Should I solder together metal parts for a pin?

I'm looking to make a steampunk hat pin for a cadet hat I own, and I want to model it on old pilots' wings. If I wanted to combine wings, a metal gear and maybe some sort of fancy button, would soldering be the best way to fix them to some sort of pin base? If not, please advise!

If you can manage it, yes, soldering is your absolutely best option. Those of us who have no access to soldering equipment have to make do with finding really good glues. Use the solder if you can.
